( reading comprehensive and note making )

1).  Read the passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :

The role friends play in our lives has become significantly greater than at any other time in our History. Today many of us live and work at great distances from where we were born or we grew up and are separated from our original families. the pain we feel when we were away from our families can be significant.
The happiness of the individual relies on friendship which form a necessary human connection. it is perfectly normal to need and want friends and depression is more prevalent among those who lack friends. They lack intimacy and richness friends can bring into our lives. frequently friends reflect similar value to us .Yet these values  are often and different from the ones we grew up with ; they are the value we created for ourselves in our adult lives.
Communication skill are fundamental in all friendsships. The more friends and acquaintances one has. the greater our one's communication skill. some call these, people skills.
Like watering a plant, we grow our friendships (and all our relationships) by naturing  them friendships need the same attention as other relationships, if they are to continue . these relationships can be delightfully non-judgmental, supportive, understanding and fun.
sometime of friendship can bring out the positive side that you never show in any other relationship. this may be because the pressure of playing a 'role' (doughter, partner or child) is removed. with a friend you can be yourself and are free to change. of course you are free to do this in other relationships as well, but in friendships you get to have lots of rehearsals and discussion about changes as you experience them. it is an unconditional experience where you receive as much as you give. you can explain yourself to a friend openly without the fear of hurting a family member. how do friendships grow? the answer is simple. by revealing yourself ; being attentive ; remembering what is most important to your friends and asking them about it; putting yourself in their position; showing empathy; seeing the world through the eyes of your friends, you will understand the value of friendship. all this means learning to accept a person from a completely different family to your own or perhaps someone from our completely different cultural background. this is the way we learn tolerance. in tern again tolerance and acceptance for our own difference.
Friendships are made by being considerate which means all the communication skill into flay : active listening skills, questioning skills, negotitation  skills, reflecting content skills, reflecting emotion skill, and editing yourself.

   i) How are we sepereted from our families ?

   ii) a trial performance ( para - 5 )

2).  Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow :

To date happiness  has defined definition. most people tend to equate happiness with fun, good living , plenty of money. if happiness where synonymous with all thids, rich people with all their luxurious and countess parties. would be perpetually happy. but in actual fact, they are frequently, actually unhappy, despite their riches and ability to indulge in fun activities at will. fun is what we experience during and act; happiness is that intangible something we experience after an act. we may have fun watching a movie, going shopping, meeting friends- these are all fun activities that afford us fleeting  moments of relaxation And enjoyment. happiness, on other hand, is a much stronger, deeper and more abinding emotion.
If we perceive happiness as the ultimate goal, we must also device a way to reach that goal. the way to happiness is not a smooth, broad Highway along which we can cruise at a comfortable speed. it is a path through Rocky and rugged Terrain and the goeing can become very tought at times. all theses time we have to roll of our sleeves and with pitchfork and shovel  make our way onward. this Pursuit of Happiness last a lifetime. great happiness is earned only by great effort and not in spruts but the diligents, constant effort.
in this connection we are confronted with another fallacy, that fun and  pleasure mean happiness and thus pain, it's corollary,  must be synonymous with unhappiness. but in fact the truth is quite different. thing that bring us happiness, more often than not, involve some amount of pain. it is because of misconception that people avoid the very endeavour that is the source of true happiness. difficult endeavours - such as the rising of children. establishing deeper relationships with Love Ones, trying to do something worthwhile in life- hold the promise of a world of happiness.
happiness is not a permanent vocation. another prevalent belief is that if one were  rich enough not to have to work one would be blissfully happy. but a job is more than just a play cheque. almost all religions teach us that work is worship. work holds the key to happiness as doing something which increases confidence and self- worth. it brings on a feeling of satisfaction, of doing something, of contributing. job satisfaction comes less from how much one earn that from the challenge of the job. of course the play cheque count. it would be an unrealistic to suggest that one could be happy without a basic shelter, roaming the street on an empty stomach.
